"Luther Was Here" Luther Pilgrimage, Luther Heritage and 500 Years of Reformation

The German Lutheran Church and government are celebrating 500 years of Luther´s announcement of the 95 theses. This historical event and the person of the reformator are presented as stepping stones of modernity in present times of political crisis. The newly established „Luther-route“ route combines dozens of places that Luther visited, with secular sites on the way – a contradictory, postmodern Protestant pilgrimage route. The lecture investigates this heritagization and contemporary “counter-reformation“ of Martin Luther.
