Nemendum Háskóla Íslands býðst að sækja um átta vikna sumarnám International Honors Program (IHP) við Stanford háskóla í Kaliforníu sem haldið er ár hvert.
Stanford og Háskóli Íslands undirrituðu samning um sumarnám árið 2010 og síðan þá hefur hópur nemenda HÍ farið til Stanford á sumri hverju og kynnst einstöku háskóla- og vísindasamfélagi í einum virtasta háskóla heims. Námsdvöl við Stanford getur nýst þeim vel sem stefna á framhaldsnám í Bandaríkjunum.
Allir nemendur HÍ í grunn- og meistaranámi sem hafa lokið a.m.k. einu námsári (60 ECTS) áður en sumarnámið hefst með meðaleinkunn að lágmarki 7,5 geta sótt um.
Í boði er fjölbreytt úrval námskeiða. Nemendur þurfa að skrá sig í fullt nám (8 Stanford einingar) og geta sótt um að fá námskeið metin inn í námsferil sinn í HÍ. Nemendur HÍ fá 20% afslátt af skólagjöldum. Nemendur HÍ eru undanþegnir kröfum um TOEFL próf, en verða að hafa mjög góða enskukunnáttu.
Umsóknarferlið er tvíþætt. Nemendur senda fyrst umsókn til Háskóla Íslands. Sérstök valnefnd metur umsækjendur á grundvelli námsárangurs, meðmæla, framtíðaráforma og viðtals og velur hóp nemenda sem tilnefndir eru til Stanford. Tilnefndir nemendur senda síðan inn umsókn með námskeiðsvali til Stanford.
Sótt er um rafrænt og fylgigögn (á ensku) hengd við umsóknina.
Opnað verður fyrir umsóknir um miðjan desember.

Summer at Stanford University
University of Iceland students will have the opportunity to participate in the 8-week International Honors Program (IHP) at Stanford University.
A group of students from the University of Iceland has participated in the summer program at Stanford since 2010, when an agreement was first established between Stanford University and the University of Iceland. This is a unique opportunity for UI students to study at one of the leading universities in the world. The IHP Program can come in good use when applying for further studies.
Undergraduate and Master´s students from all disciplines, who have completed at least one academic year (60 ECTS) at UI at the start of the summer program with a minimum GPA of 7.5, are eligible to apply. Students can select from a variety of courses and must enroll in at least 8 Stanford units (12 ECTS) that can be transferred to UI. Students at the University of Iceland are exempt from submitting TOEFL scores but must be completely fluent in English.
All nominated UI students will receive a 20% discount of the tuition fees.
Please note that this is a two-step application process. Students first apply to the University of Iceland, where a selection committee evaluates their academic achievements, letters of recommendation, future plans and an interview. Selected students are then nominated to Stanford and proceed with the Stanford application process.
Students fill out an online application, with attached supporting documents (in English).
Applications will open in mid-December.
