Erindið nefnist Situations, Social Ideals, and the Right to Reasons
Um fyrirlesturinn
The paper argues that the concept of „skilful coping“, often used in cognitive science for the overall structure of embodied behavior, is too narrow and has to be supplemented by a broader understanding of what it is to be in situations. Drawing on arguments by (mostly) John Dewey, I develop critical reflections about the relation between the embodied situations we encounter, the social ideals for articulating them, and what Rainer Forst called the „Right to Reasons“ characterizing pluralistic democracies. Corresponding to different situations, I end up with distinguishing three kinds of reasoning: embodied, embedded and „freestanding“.
