Nánar:
The past that inhabits our present is the legacy of the twentieth century. But we need a more precise definition of its beginning and end, as well as of its internal chronology. A discussion of the former theme can take off from the widely accepted notion of a short twentieth century, 1914-1991. There is a case for a complementary construction of a delayed twentieth century, 1914-2008. Reinhart Koselleck´s concept of "time layers" can be used for purposes of further periodization, and a comparison with East Asia will help to correct Eurocentric perspectives.
