Abstract. In recent years high-throughput sequencing technology has evolved rapidly. The technology, which is used for sequencing of genomes, transcriptomes and amplicons, has reinforced research in biology and has provided the basis for the currently ongoing genomic studies and the field of systems biology. Billion bases can now be sequenced in a single day at relatively low cost, something which was impossible few years ago applying conventional Sanger sequencing methods.
In the lecture, different high-throughput sequencing platforms will be introduced. Diverse application potentials will be discussed and various sequencing projects carried out at Matís will be presented.
