Þann 13. Og 14. september koma saman alþjóðlegir sérfræðingar í fjármálum og sjálfbærni á Íslandi – þar verður upp velt spurningunni – eru til aðrar leiðir til að mæla velgengni þjóða en með hagvexti? Ef svarið er játandi hverjar eru þá áskorarnirnar, tækifærin og aðferðir? Ráðstefnan er unnin innan ramma niðurstaðna skýrslu sem Prófessor Tim Jackson skrifaði árið 2009 fyrir framkvæmdastjórn um sjálfbært Bretland (UK Sustainability Commission) undir heitinu Velgengi án hagvaxtar: Umbreytni í Sjálfbært Hagkerfi (Prosperity Without Growth: Transition to a Sustainable Economy).  Þar setur Jackson fram 12 skrefa líkan fyrir velgengi þjóða innan ramma vistkerfa jarðarinnar.  Á mánugagsmorgni þann 13. september verður ofangreind spurning reyfuð og umræða um hagvöxt eða engan hagvöxt. Eftir hádegi þann sama dag verða sett fram líkön og sviðsmyndir fyrir hagkerfi án vaxtar og alheimshagkerfið rætt í ljósi sjálfbærra grenndarsamfélaga.  Á þriðjudagsmorgni verða tengsl sjórnmála og hagfræði rædd ásamt því að settar verða fram sviðsmyndir um nýtt alheimshagkerfi án hagvaxtar.

Ráðstefnan er skipulögð af svokölluðum Balatonhóp (http://www.balatongroup.org/) og forseta Verkfræði og náttúruvísindasviðs Háskóla Íslands, Kristínu Völu Ragnarsdóttur. Hún er meðlimur í Balatonhópnum.  Þessi hópur hefur hist árlega síðan 1982 til að ræða efni sem tengjast sjálfbærni.  Hópurinn var stofnaður af Donellu Meadows og Dennis Meadows sem skrifuðu Tagmörk hagvaxtar (Limits to Growth) fyrir Rómarhópinn (Club of Rome) 1972.  Þátttakendur á ráðstefnunni eru m.a. frá stofnunum Sameinuðu þjóðanna, fyrrverandi efnahagsráðgjafar forseta Bandaríkjanna, Umboðamaður komandi kynslóða í Ungverjalandi, prófessorar og sérfræðingar frá ýmsum frjálsum félagasamtökum.

Allir eru velkomnir á ráðstefnuna á meðan húsrúm leyfir.  

Ráðstefnugjald er 7500 (3000 fyrir nemendur, eldri borgara og atvinnulausa) og er kaffi og hádegismatur innifalið í gjaldinu.
