Applications are being accepted for the position of Lecturer or Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at the School of Education, University of Iceland, in the field of arts and creativity for children in preschools, elementary schools and lower secondary schools.
The position involves furthering the development of research and educating school teachers in the arts, with special emphasis on early childhood education.
Main responsibilities:
- • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses and supervise doctoral students.
- • Conduct and publish educational research in the incumbent’s field of expertise.
- • Be a leader in the field, within the School of Education and in the community at large.
- • Participate in the interdisciplinary development of instruction and research in arts education, including the shaping of master’s and doctoral degree programmes.
- • Initiate, develop, and advance collaboration with educators in the field, particularly in preschools and compulsory schools.
Qualifications:
The qualified applicant will hold a doctorate in a field of creativity in early childhood education, or in an artistic field such as music or visual art, or have an otherwise demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities of the position.
Demonstrated pedagogical knowledge and experience related to the applicant’s field of specialization is required, as is an understanding of the educational functions and inner workings of preschools or elementary/lower secondary schools. The applicant must work well with others and be willing to cooperate and show flexibility in social interaction.
Appointment is for five years beginning in autumn 2011 with the possibility of tenure after this period, as per section a 3, article 31 of the Regulation for the University of Iceland, no. 569/2009.

Salary is according to the collective agreement between The Union of University Teachers and the Ministry of Finance.
